black skin.

I love my black skin

It glistens in the sunshine

It melts into the dark time stays strong after life storms

Black don’t crack is all I’ve heard

That doesn’t mean it’s not filled with hurt

From years of second guessing

Thinking black is just not enough

Feeling uneasy about loving freely

When a black man has to be so tough

My roots wrenched in the blood of my ancestors

Many gave their life so that we could stand

Love shown that last forever’s

We act as if we don’t remember

Books couldn’t tell us fully

Words & Reading was as diamonds for us

Knowledge was always key

Nothing easy

Especially not just because they gave us free.
