Time Will Tell
There are so many things I want to say to you
My spirit is dressed very thick
My mind can barely contain its’ thoughts
My soul has little peace
My eyes heavy with its weight
My stomach tied in knots
Many thought the battle was won
In actuality, it’s only been fought
Tricked into thinking we are all o.k
Scoffed when we raise our brow
Are times so different from yesterday?
That we should not be marching now
If we sit and think a bit
We will see that things really haven’t changed
America’s wheels are still rolling
The fire still aflame
Could southern trees still bear strange fruit?
Look deep and you will see
Time keeps telling me its truth
Though America was built on me
I once heard a great woman say-
When someone shows you who they are believe them it’s the truth-
So why do we keep getting burned in the fiery flame?
If there is work that we can do
America she owes us still
And yes we should complain
Some will say, “That was yesterday”
And others will add wood to the flame
Where are all the bleeding hearts?
When it comes to me
Haven’t blacks suffered enough in America?
With no real reciprocity
I can no longer smile and coo as if things are ok
Time is telling us her truth
Malcolm X once said
Why, my Lord, are we fighting wars for her?
When she is still at war with us
Time is finished with keeping quiet
This devil we should seldom trust
Yes, the devil is alive and strong
And it takes on many forms
It wears masks, and can change it’s tint
And can come in before the storm
If you are one that says, well that’s not me!!!
And goes on with your life
It’s time that you stand up with me
Cause you know that it’s still not right
It amazes me that you’ll show up
Over the fighting of some dogs
But when blacks demand true rights
You asking “Why all the fuss?”
As if nothing is wrong
America, she is sick with slim hopes of getting well
And I believed Malcom X when he said” just wait-time will tell
